About

Biography

I  graduated in 2013 with an MA in Translation Studies (German to English) from the University of Portsmouth. My specialist areas  included literature translation, cultural translation and subtitling/surtitling (working with the “Wincaps” programme). For my dissertation I undertook a translation of part of  Richard Wagner’s Oper und Drama.

I graduated in Music in 1991 (MusB Hons.) and in Modern Language Studies (German and English) in 2008 (BA First Class Hons.) For the past 20 years I have worked as a professional musician, touring Germany and Austria amongst other European countries. As a freelance translator I specialise in arts and cultural affairs, with a particular interest in music. I also write and translate programme notes and deliver pre-concert talks, which have included interviews with international conductors on a wide range of music. I have also written articles and delivered talks for the Wagner Societies of Scotland and London.

Other translation and language work has included translating websites and offering essay-writing support to non-native speakers of English. Following my passion for outdoor sports, I also translate in the areas of sports (in particular cycling and winter sports), leisure and tourism.
